In The Hay fields On That Summer Day
The problem that I solved in this project was the main title. I wanted to experiment with the text and it’s placement. How I salved this problem was by making sure that I had evenly spaced words by using the rulers. To make it stand out more I used a very slight shadow on the words. I don’t tend to like having shadows because I feel like they are improperly or overly used. Using shadows the wrong way can make the whole project look amateurish. That being said I because I used a very light shadow it accents the text and gives it more depth. It also gives a scene of looseness and freedom. Because of the white text against the shadow it makes you think of summer.
The other difficulty that I had was with the picture itself. I chose this type of picture because
I wanted to create a picture that was about a timeless event that happened long ago. Also I wanted a feeling of freedom and of first love. The woman in the hay field helps create this by having on an old styled dress. I made two duplicates of the photo and put the opacity on 46% and the blending mode to Soft Light for both. The first one I turned it into a smart filter and used Gaussian Blur on it. The second one I played around with the new adjustment layer and turned it to selective color.
For the last phase of this project I made three Solid Color adjustment layers. The first two was set to the blend mode of Exclusion and the third one was set to Multiply blend mode. The first solid color was a dark red color to give the picture’s shadows a red tinge to it. This provides the picture with a slightly washed out look to itself. Because I am a strong believer in less is more I tend to make sure that everything in the picture is still believable so I set the opacity to 30% and used a clipping mask to cover the areas that I didn’t want to be affected by the solid color of red. The second solid color was the color mid tone blue. I repeated the processes of the solid red color but put the opacity a little higher. The third solid color was a light creamy yellow. All three solid colors played a part to give this picture it’s unique faded look.
