Fantasy Title

This book cover is about a girl, or is she a dragon or some kind of reptile? The chose is yours to make. I wanted this book to be in the fantasy gene. I accomplished this through the color scheme, which was done by using the complementary colors red and green to make a vivid picture to capture the viewer’s attention. I also used photo manipulation to give the cover a fantasy look to it. Both the photo manipulation and color scheme tells the viewer that this is indeed a fantasy book. The text that was used for this cover is a very simple one to balance out the boldness of the image. Because of the text being a serif it gives an old feeling to the title. I also put a style affect on the text, called Beveled and Emboss to give it more of a fantasy feel to it.

The first thing I did for this book cover is to think about what I wanted to accomplish through this. I wanted to show that I could convey different genes affecantly through image, typography, design elements, and color scheme. So I decided to go with a girl who has scales for a fantasy type of book cover. How I did this was I started out with a close up of half of a woman’s face. Then I made a displacement map of a picture of a snake skin onto her face. A displacement map is a way to combine images together. Not only does it combine two pictures together but it also wraps one of the images around the contours of the other image. This is an advanced design for Photoshop. Once this was done I went onto the color scheme. Her hair was a light brown and because I knew I wanted a complementary scheme of red and green I knew it had to change. I changed the color from brown to red by using an adjustment layer called hue/saturation. I did the same thing for her skin, going from a normal human skin color to green. For the finishing touches I used a green solid color layer and used the blending mode of overlay to create depth in her face.

Also I created eyeshadow using the blending mode of Color on a new layer. On this layer (which is set to the blending mode of Color) I started to paint on the eye shadow with a light brush. I made sure that this looked realistic and blended with her skin.
